Currently, people with myopia can say goodbye to glasses or contact lenses due to surgery. Its outcome depends on several factors and is required to meet various requirements. Please note this.
1. What is refractive surgery?
The correction of myopia by laser is an alternative and applied worldwide. Today is the most used and has virtually replaced the earlier due to rapid postoperative recovery and a lot less annoying.
During surgery, a small cut, called “flap” that stood to directly apply the excimer laser beam, held a workshop which modifies the curvature of the cornea, thus correcting the refractive error.
Then we put the flap in its initial position, which attaches in minutes. The intervention is a painless lasik extraocular that was made using anesthetic drops. Advance preparation is required with eye drops during the three days prior to surgery.
The operation itself usually takes about ten minutes and during it the patient has to turn its gaze to a fixation. After you wait about twenty minutes to pass the first review and the patient leaves the eyes uncovered and with their own feet.
The next day you can resume normal life in most cases. In the following days should continue treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eyedrops to prevent infection.
2. What conditions are necessary for its success?
Basic precondition is complete ophthalmological examination. For a person of LASIK surgery can be taken into account a number of factors that determine the outcome:
- There must be over 18 years.
- Have a graduation stable for at least a year.
- Stop using contact lenses during the days before surgery. These days vary depending on the type of lenses.
- Have no eye disease that may contraindicate surgery, such as Keratoconus or dry eye cases very marked.
- Have a minimum corneal parameters for the use of lasers, among which we highlight the corneal thickness.
To verify that this requires a rigorous examination of the patient before, see if you meet all these requirements and rule out any pathology which can interfere with surgery or worse prognosis.
This usually involves dilation of the pupil to enable both crystalline look closely as retina.
It is also necessary to know the shape and thickness of the cornea by performing corneal topography and pachymetry, not to mention a detailed graduation.
