The eye is a very sensitive organ and, despite having its own defense system, is vulnerable to injury and illness. If you want to maintain lifelong good vision, eye care must be taken.

Eyes
Eyes should be protected from accidents. Can lead to blindness due to injuries to sharp sticks, firecrackers, toy guns and other objects that children can use them as projectiles during their games. Parents should stand firm with their children, explaining the possible consequences of dangerous games. The lenses of the glasses should be shatterproof material, especially if they are for children.

Foreign bodies
The lid is able to close a fifth of a second. It is a reflex action that responds to the smallest stimulus. However, it is inevitable that foreign bodies are lodged in the eye, and there is a right way to remove them without damage. If between the eyelid and eyeball sits a soft object such as a tab, then the affected person close your eye. Take it near a bright light and gently open the eye. If not visible foreign body, have her look up, down, and on either side, while it shifts the lid in the opposite direction. When you locate the foreign body should be removed from the eye with the tip of a clean handkerchief.

Never attempt to remove particles embedded in the white of the eye or placed on the center. Nor should try hard to leave a foreign body, tearing unless you have scrolled to the inner corner. In both cases, the eye should be covered with a bandage off, do not touch or squeeze the eyelid or the eyeball, and should take the casualty to the doctor.

Eyestrain
- Can largely avoided using excessive eye strain common sense to develop good habits for reading and working at near distances.
- Always read in good light, but making sure that no light is reflected directly on the page. Too much reflection makes uncomfortable reading fashion.
- When reading, keep the book at a distance of at least a foot away from the eyes, and relax the muscles controlling the lens looking toward a distant object after each hour of reading.
- Do not sit near a TV screen, or to contemplate in a dark room. We need a greater amount of light to perform work within walking distance.
- Adults must undergo a vision test every two years, and children once a year. A defect of vision can alter the social and educational development of children and its effects can be confused with a lack of intelligence. Early detection of visual defects allow remedial measures and thereby achieve maximum usage of the vision is preserved.
- Adults over forty years must pass examinations and eye tests every year in order to detect and treat existing conditions before they suffer irreparable damage vision.
- It is necessary to use glasses to correct conditions like other visual disturbances hypermetria already named. The lenses used are those prescribed by the ophthalmologist. Hypermetria may occur with increasing age (presbyopia) due to loss of elasticity of the lens. Any vision impairment resulting in a greater visual effort, and requires prompt correction. Failure to do so, the patient may experience persistent headaches.

Abuse of Cosmetics
Eye cosmetics can cause violent allergic reactions, especially those containing particles of “brightness”. There may be a contact dermatitis after years of use, with onset of swelling (edema) and itching around the eyelids, and sometimes even the whole face. It is a wise use of hypoallergenic cosmetics that are currently for sale.
Clean all traces of eye makeup every night. Use mild soap and water or a mild cleansing oil. If left particles of makeup at night, there is greater risk of irritation. The use of masks tends to increase the fragility of the tabs can be damaged by contact with the sheets at night.
There is a cosmetic product should never be used by system, or even be removed entirely; it is the glue for false eyelashes. If applied incorrectly, can obstruct the normal flow of tears from the tear glands.

Eye Infections
Blepharitis is an inflammation of the edges of the eyelids. It can lead to infection of the eyelash follicles. If it infects the membrane covering the eye, the patient has a “red eye” (conjunctivitis). The disorder can be accompanied by removal of pus, pain and sensitivity to bright light.

If the infection affects only one eye, it can spread easily to the other during the early stages when the patient has not noticed its existence. For this reason, the eyes should always be cleaned separately from a piece of gauze from the inside corner to the content. Pull the cotton used immediately and use a new one to clean the other eye.
